New Authors - Research the Marketability of Your Book Before Writing It By Paul Godines One of the few tasks on any new author's list would be to research the marketability of their book. Most just figure they will write it and it will sell if they work hard enough trying to sell it. However most writers have no idea what it takes to sell a book, so it's a conundrum they find themselves in and many fail to achieve the level of success that they could have achieved with just a little pre-planning. Begin your research by; 1. Wordtracker.com - this is a great place to start when researching the marketability of your story, begin by identifying the keywords you associated with your story. At research 2. Google.com - the world biggest and best search engine. What you're going to look for is the Results - Results 1 - 10 of about 492,000 for adapt on a dime. (0.23 seconds). This result can be found on the top of your search page in addition you will want to glance at the advertisers posted on the left of the page. 3. Amazon - next go to Amazon and research the books in your niche, how many are there. What do they cost, what's the most common colors used on the covers. Look for as much information as you can, all you're doing is gathering info. Don't worry about the competition right now just look at what they're doing and identify what you see that works. 4. Google AdSense.com - let's go back to Google, and visit their Ad Sense website. Here you will be able to determine the price for certain keywords therefore the value of the market you're planning to enter with your writings. 5. Top Sites - now that you have a list of your competition form Amazon and Google, go their sites assess their products and services. Take a look and detect if they are aggressively promoting their book on their web sites. Read their sales page just gather as much info as you can about who they are and what they do. 6. Associations/Organizations - while on your Top competitor's websites, discover what organizations and associations they belong to and go join them to learn more about what they offer. 7. Pricing - next you can move on to determining your product funnel. What are you going to price your story at? By now you should be able to have an idea what the market has paid for well know experts by visiting their websites. Now just because you may be a new author doesn't mean you cannot charge as much or more then experts who may have been in the industry for decades. Pricing really relies more on the content you offer and not how new to the market you are. With this research information you will be able to confidently write, publish, market and promote your book with confidence that you can succeed.
